SEO Guarantees: Friend Or Foe?

The popular consensus within the SEO community as of late, is that all SEO guarantees are generally a bad thing. The main reason behind this ideology is the belief that no one can honestly promise top ranking results on the search engines, so anyone making such promises must not be a legitimate entity. While not instantly placing your trust into an seo company solely based upon a guarantee seems like sound advice, at the same time, a blanket statement condemning all services who offer certain types of guarantees seems in itself a bit conjured if not bordering on self serving by the companies and individuals posting some of these warnings (who in many cases are selling seo services themselves, without a guarantee).

The problem is that there are too many wild and false claims to weed through before you might eventually stumble upon something worthwhile, and by that time you're likely to be feeling jaded to begin with. For those who may have experienced this exasperating seo search experience, don't automatically cast aside a particular seo service just because their sign has the word "guarantee" in it or you may be missing out.

While in most cases (but not all) it may be impossible to gain any worthwhile results very quickly (and should never be guaranteed of course), it is reasonable to expect good results within a sensible amount of time (say 6 months - 1 year) and for a truly ethical seo company or specialist to be willing to stand behind their services by offering at least some sort of limited protection for client's.

It stands to reason then that although you should probably shy away if you're being promised the world on a silver platter, you should be just as leery if you feel your investment is being offered no security at all. Try to find an individual or company that offers something in between, something sensible that offers at least limited protection.

It may be a partnership guarantee where their pay is based upon the amount of increased sales, or even an agreement to split the financial risk (via a limited type of refund) over a period of many months if things don't go as planned. The fact is, there are many steps an SEO company can take to help protect their clients investments and while many choose to offer nothing at all in this regard it shouldn't deter you from approaching someone who does. Be careful, be prudent and be reasonable, but don't let the word "guarantee" automatically scare you away.
